Global warming is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity and represents a threat to the development of peoples. It is the poorest people and nations who suffer the most from its consequences. We work on diagnosing the situation, in particular periodic reports on the challenges facing developing countries and the impact of the climate crisis on the most vulnerable populations. The Foundation will also develop proposals to promote the ecological transition and to promote international agreements for its financing.

It is the other great challenge of our time. Convinced that there is no social justice without tax justice, we develop strategies for the redefinition of the tax structure at the national level and the promotion of international agreements to reduce tax evasion and tax multinationals corporations. This must be accompanied by national policies of distributive justice and a new international economic and financial architecture (Fratelli Tutti, 173) that alleviates the burden of foreign debt that in many countries compromises the progress of peoples and even their subsistence.

In the run-up to the 2025 Jubilee, the Pope has entrusted a High-Level Commission of Eminent Experts, chaired by Prof. Joseph Stiglitz and supported by the Foundation, made up of prestigious academics, experts and professionals of different beliefs, religions and origins.

The Commission works on four global problems that the Pope considers intrinsically linked and whose joint approach is essential to lead our economies towards a more sustainable and inclusive future: climate emergency; financial struggles and inequality; debt crisis and sustainability; and international trade and knowledge.

Fraternity presupposes the recognition of the dignity of the human person. The desire for social friendship, expressed by Pope Francis in his encyclical Fratelli Tutti, also requires constant dialogue, not only among Christians, but with all men and women of good will. Under these premises, the Pope calls us to work for the spread of the culture of peace, the reform of the global institutional order, political charity, social dialogue, the protection of the dignity of migrants and prisoners, and the universal abolition of the death penalty.

Human Justice

Culture of Peace

To promote a human law, justice systems and institutions, we support the Pope Francis' Center for Juridical and Social Studies that operates within the Foundation.

Culture of Peace

Culture of Peace

As defined by the United Nations, “Culture of Peace” is a “set of values, attitudes, modes of behavior and ways of life that reject violence and prevent conflicts by tackling their root causes to solve problems through dialogue and negotiation among individuals groups and nations”.

Laudato si' Foundation is committed to promote the culture of peace and to promote peace through culture.

Strengthening Democracy

The very concept of democracy is emptied of meaning if our economic and social system produces victims and discarded people (Fratelli Tutti, 110). The unrest that this generates weakens democracies, and people are more vulnerable to the easy promises of populism and authoritarianism.

The very concept of democracy is emptied of meaning if our economic and social system produces victims and discarded people (Fratelli Tutti, 110). The unrest that this generates weakens democracies, and people are more vulnerable to the easy promises of populism and authoritarianism.

The Pope calls us to promote tools for the strengthening of democracies, which reinforce representativeness, prevent corruption and inefficiency, and contribute to creating a consciousness of “the people” with a common project.

Both in the traditional media and in the digital world, “enormous economic interests are at stake, capable of carrying out forms of control that are as subtle as they are invasive, creating mechanisms for manipulating consciences and the democratic process” (Fratelli Tutti, 45).

Both in the traditional media and in the digital world, “enormous economic interests are at stake, capable of carrying out forms of control that are as subtle as they are invasive, creating mechanisms for manipulating consciences and the democratic process” (Fratelli Tutti, 45).

The Pope urges us to counter the spread of false information and news, to discourage the spread of prejudice and hatred, and to promote pluralism on digital platforms, which favor “the encounter between people who think in the same way, hindering the confrontation between differences”.
